The official blog for the Open Knowledge Foundation (OKF). The posts generally contain a high level of technical information, event information, links and embedded files and media. The content is an excellent source of detailed information about Open Data uses and stories from all over the world. The blog is part of the larger OKF site and is licensed CC By like the other iterations of the OKF web presence. The contributors to the blog include co-founder Jordan Hatcher and Community Coordinator Jonathon Gray among other guest contributors and board members.
- Open Data Impacts: Exploring the impact of opening up government data
Tim Davies has been writing a Dissertation for his MSc and this blog provides commentary, thoughts and ideas on the production of the dissertation as well as high posts about the re-use, implementation and implications of Open Data in government. Of particular use are the images of potential workflows for re-use of Open Data and the working ideas behind the Literature Review which is part of Davies’ dissertation. Comments come from a range of people, mostly from government, but are mostly thanking Davies for the information rather than engaging in debate.

This blog by Michael Gurstein provides well balanced an informed commentary as well as insightful views on Community Informatics and the use of Open Data throughout the world. Gurstein’s posts are well written and often attract comment from interesting and informed contemporaries and contain links to quality information including referenced articles and government papers. The tagline of the blog is “enabling and empowering communities with information and communications technologies” and this is largely the focus of blog posts however there is often parallel lines between Community Informatics and the use of Open Data and this is touched on often in the commentary.
